It's truly one of the most beautiful vacation destinations in the area, and one that Avanti Costa Rica airport car rental travelers shouldn't miss! Designed as the headquarters for the Asociacion Conservacionista Ojoche, the Danaus Eco-Center provides tourists with a simple slice of paradise.
The purpose of the Danaus Eco-Center
The Danaus Eco-Center proudly provides local residents and Costa Rica airport car rental visitors with a place to develop their understanding of the local environment. The center is especially dedicated to providing local children with a safe pace to learn about flora and fauna, as well as explore the great outdoors. Amenities at the Danaus Eco-Center include a tree nursery of native species in danger of extinction. Costa Rica airport rental car travelers will have the opportunity to see endangered trees like the ojoche and yellow almond tree. Visitors will also have the opportunity to see more than 150 different species of birds at the center, as well as sloths, bats, caymans, iguanas, snakes, frogs, and butterflies.
A walk to remember
The Danaus Eco-Center is recognized as hosting some of the coolest walking tours in all of Costa Rica. The tours include an in depth look at a wide variety of wildlife, including various species of tree frogs. While many Costa Rica airport car rental travelers like to tour the center by day, it's the night tour that makes the center a popular tourist attraction. This guided tour lasts for about an hour and a half and gives participants the opportunity to experience the rainforest after dark. Costa Rica rental car travelers will watch as the forest comes to life and nocturnal animals begin to roam the area. Highlights of the tour include observing a variety of insects as well as watching frogs like the Gaudy Leaf Frog embark on an evening outing. The tour is hosted by an English-speaking naturalist guide and includes a brief cultural and natural history of the area.
Cost of the tour
Costa Rica airport car rental travelers can experience this unique night tour for just a few dollars. Guided day walks at the center are offered for $12 per person, (non-guided walks are available for $7 each). Night walks, which include an Eco-Center guide, flashlight, and poncho, cost $35 per person. Children from ages 5 through 12 can experience the tour for half price when accompanied by an adult. Children under the age of five are permitted on the tour for free with a paying adult. Costa Rica airport rental car travelers can book the Danaus Eco-Center tour directly at their hotel (provided the hotel offers a concierge service).
Adopt a tree at the center
Want to leave a lasting memory at the Danaus Eco-Center during your upcoming Costa Rica rental car vacation? Then why not adopt a tree that will be planted at the ecological reserve? Costa Rica airport car rental travelers are encouraged to adopt a tree of their choice during their visit. This tree will then be planted by children in the community during a lesson on agriculture and ecology. The tree's roots will grow to protect and feed the natural water springs that are located on the center's lands. All of the money raised during the tree adoption process is used to help purchase lands in order to expand the forest cover and protect the native habitat. Costa Rica airport car rental travelers can adopt a tree at the center for just $10. Trees have been adopted from international travelers the world over, and include donations from Canada, the United States, Germany, France, Switzerland, and Japan.
