How it all began¡¦
Ludwig Kientzler and his wife Susann founded ¡°Kientzler Jungpflanzen" in Germany on October 15, 1904. Pelargoniums, heliotropes, and chrysanthemum were some of the first plants that were planted there. After World War I, more varieties were included including Rex-begonias, Lorraine begonias, ferns, pteris, hydrangea and chrysanthemums. Else married the son of Ludwig Kientzler after a chance meeting in the nursery where she was working. However, following the unfortunate death of her husband, Else Kientzler decided to relocate with her 3 children and to set up a new greenhouse, the Else Kientzler Botanical Garden.
Moving towards progress
The botanical garden began to develop in 1998, in a section of the Innovaplant property that was planted with coffee. When the coffee plants were removed, a nursery was constructed and the areas were planned and developed. Footpaths and trails were built and the addition of gardens followed.
A peaceful stroll around the garden
The garden, offers a comfortable walking route (40% of it is wheelchair accessible) which takes 1 to 3 hours to complete.
