The following 10 descriptions highlight a handful of the country's finest waterfall attractions. 1) Llanos del Cortez

San Jose Costa Rica car rental travelers can access this waterfall right off the Pan-American Highway in Guanacaste. Simply exit at the Bagaces turnover and continue for a few kilometers. This waterfall is as wide as it is tall and features a great swimming hole at it's base.

2) La Fortuna

This may just be the most popular waterfall in all of Costa Rica. San Jose Costa Rica car rental travelers will find it en route to the Arenal Volcano. Once of the best ways to explore this natural wonder is by horseback (tour providers are located in the area). If you choose to swim at the La Fortuna waterfall, be careful. This is a very forceful waterfall and there is a very strong current at the bottom.

3) The Waterfalls of Corcovado National Park

Hiking through Corcovado National Park is no easy feat. On any given day, the temperature could rise to be well over 100 degrees, and that's without the humidity! Luckily, San Jose Costa Rica car rental travelers will have the pleasure of cooling off under many unique waterfalls during their adventure. The falls in Corcovado National Park are well shaded and conveniently located along the half-day hiking trail.

4) Montezuma Falls

This waterfall is easy to locate. Simply park your San Jose Costa Rica car renal at the Hotel Amor de Mar and take a quick 20 minute walk up river. A popular swimming hole is located at the bottom of the falls. A path will lead you to the top of the falls. A rope has been installed to help hikers as the trail descends to two other hidden falls - the furthest of which features a rope swing.

5) Cocolito Falls

These falls are located in Montezuma as well, only they're are nearly as easy to access. To get there, you'll need to park your San Jose Costa Rica car rental and embark on a two hour hike north from the national park. The trip is well worth it though! The waterfall drops from a cliff directly onto the beach in a perfect sand cove.

6) Los Chorros Falls

This popular swimming spot is located in Grecia, just a short drive from San Jose. Though difficult to reach by car rental, this waterfall is a great place to spend a hot afternoon. The area around the waterfall has been turned into a little park, complete with changing rooms and picnic area (a small fee is charged to those who wish to use the facilities). A hotel is also located in the area, just incase you're too tired to make it back to San Jose.

7) The San Luis Waterfall

Located just outside of the Monteverde Cloud Forest, this waterfall provides San Jose Costa Rica car rental travelers with a romantic atmosphere. A misty climate adds an degree of mystery to your visit, along with the towering trees and blooming foliage. To get to the waterfall, bear right at the fork in the road just before the Cloud reserve. Continue for about 7 kilometers. The Falls are just a short distance from the parking area.

8) La Paz Waterfalls

9) The Falls of the Pacuare

Adventurous travelers will have their work cut out for them when it comes to spotting these elusive falls. A challenging rafting trip down the Rio Pacuare is the only way to gain access to this tower natural feature. 10) The Rio Celeste

Part of a natural thermal river, these falls are located in the Tenorio National Park in Guanacaste. The waters of the falls have a stunning turquoise glow to them thanks to the natural minerals found in the water.
